The national flag of Bangladesh was adopted officially on January 17, 1972. It is based on a similar flag used during the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971.
Bangladesh was the part of Pakistan before 1971 but in 1971 Bangladesh got independent from the Pakistan. During the war of liberation, people of Bangladesh used a flag which was designed by Qamar ul hassan, the flag was first time hoisted in 1971 in March. Later on the same flag was adopted as an official flag of Bangladesh in 1971. Flag contained the map on it but later on it was omitted from the flag. Flag of Bangladesh consists of a central rounded red colored disc and background of green color field which represents the natural greenery and natural lushness of Bangladesh while the rounded red disc represents the rising sun of independence which is redden by the blood of martyrdom of Bangladesh liberation war.The civil ensign and naval ensign place the national flag in the canton of red or white field, respectively.
