Beirut Music
Beirut is the capital and largest city of Lebanon. Lebanon is a small country located in the Middle East on the eastern edge of the Mediterranean Sea. The area including modern Beirut has been home to various civilizations and cultures for thousands of years. Music has played an important role in Lebanese cultural and religious traditions for millennial.
Traditional Music of Beirut
In addition to the voice, traditional music incorporates instruments such as the oud, the derbake (a kind of drum also known as the tabla), and the ney. Beirut or Lebanese music is known around the world for its soothing rhythms and oriental beats. Traditional and folk music are extremely popular as are eastern rhythms. The openness of Lebanese , previously cited, allows a perfect tolerance for foreign or western music too. One can easily experience any kind of music in downtown Beirut or peripherals.

Perhaps the best-known and listened to Lebanese singer is Fairuz. Other artists are also well known and loved like Majida El Roumi, Marcel Khalife who is also a composer, oud player, and Julia Boutras.
