Bulgarian National Bank is one of the oldest banks in the world. It was established on 25 January 1879. It is the central bank of the Republic of Bulgaria. The headquarters of the Bulgarian National Bank is in Sofia.

The Bulgarian National Bank was incorporated in the year 1879; it is the oldest bank of the world history. It is the central bank of Bulgaria. The Bulgarian National Bank is an autonomous institution that is responsible to:
  • Issue all bank notes
  • Issue of the coins in Bulgaria
  • Overseeing the banking sector
  • Regulate the banking sector
  • Keep the government capital reserve
Currently Mr. Ivan Iskrov is the governor of the bank. This bank is the sloe owner of the Bulgarian Mint, as well.


Head Office Branch

Its head office is located in the capital city of Bulgaria that is Sofia; this head office is the operational branch of the Bulgarian National Bank. In Sofia, it lies on the Central Battenberg square.
