The Daily Star is a major English language daily newspaper published in Bangladesh. Mahfuz Anam is the chief editor of the Daily Star. It is a member of the Asia News Network. The Daily Star was founded in 1991 and widely regarded as the country's leading English daily. It starts its journey with a sense of challenge and a feeling of humility to serve the nation as a truly independent newspaper.   
   The Daily Star made its debt at a historic time when, with the fall  of an autocratic regime, the country was well set to begin a new era towards establishing a democratic system of government which eluded Bangladesh for too long.
   The first issue of the Daily Star was published on January 14, 1991. The paper has different sections that serve different purposes.
