OLD KARACHI Karachi is the largest city of Pakistan. It is considered as the economical backbone of Pakistan. Previously it was called with different names by Greeks and Arabs, such as Krokola, Morontobara, Barbarikon, Deebal. It was founded by Muhammad Bin Qasim and it was called as Kolachi. A fisherman "Mai Kolachi" came to Karachi and he started his family here. After that a village was settled here and this village carried out trading through Arabian Sea. Two gates were built to protect Karachi Kharadar and Meetha dar. In 1864, first telegraphic message from Hindustan was sent to the London, it was sent from Karachi. Old Karachi city had a connection with the other parts of India through railway track. Karachi Empress Market is the oldest building of Karachi and Frere Hall. More interestingly Muhammad Ali Jinnah who was the founder of Pakistan, he was born in Karachi. Later he lead the struggling campaign of Muslims. From the beginning Karachi was the main trading hub that was used for trading by the local and native traders of Karachi. In 1900 tramway was introduced in Karachi city. Sanitation and transport system was improved by British government. After the foundation of Pakistan, Karachi city was declared as the capital of Pakistan. European style buildings were constructed in Karachi. Currently Karachi is the most advanced city of Pakistan. It has a huge population. It is one of the fastest growing city of Pakistan.
