The University of Karachi  is located in the city of Karachi. It is the largest public university in the country with a student population of 25,000.

Nadirshaw Edulji Dinshaw University of Engineering and Technology (NED University) is the largest and oldest engineering institution of Pakistan, located in Karachi.

Iqra University is a higher education university located at Karachi. It is chartered by the Government of Sindh in 2000 and recognized by HEC (Higher Education Commission).

Hamdard University is located in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. This private university was founded by Hakim Said of Hamdard Foundation.

The Federal Urdu University of Arts, Sciences & Technology is a coeducational public university located in Gulshan Town, Karachi. It  was established on 2002.  The university is the first university in Pakistan to teach primarily in the Urdu language.

Jinnah University for Women was founded in 1998, and is recognized by the The University Grants Commission.The University has 20 departments offering various Graduate and Postgraduate degree courses.

The Aga Khan University is a co-educational research university spread over three continents. It  was granted its charter in 1983. According to the Higher Education Commission in Pakistan ranking of universities in Pakistan, The Aga Khan University ranked first in Health Sciences.
