Government College University (Lahore) was established in 1864 during Britain rule. It was established as a college and got the university status in 2002, by the government of Punjab, Pakistan. It is one of the oldest educational institutes of Pakistan. There are approximately 350 faculty members working at the university. Total number of enrolled students exceeds up to 5500. In the beginning Government College Lahore was controlled by the Gottlib Wilhelm Leintner who was the principal of the college.
In the year 2002 government of Pakistan granted university status to the college. The name still remains the same as it is famous by this name Government College University. Government College University is offering Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD programs.
This university is a public type university and lies on the Mall (Lahore). College students are commonly called as Ravians because it is located near the River Ravi.
