Libya

Libya is a country in North Africa. More than 90% of the country is desert or semi desert. The Libyan desert, which covers much of eastern Libya, is one of the most arid places on earth. In these places, decades may pass without rain. The Libyan economy depends primarily upon revenues from the oil sector, which constitute practically an export earnings and about one quarter of gross domestic product(GDP). These oil revenues and a small population give Libya one of the highest GDP's per person in Africa and have allowed the Libyan state to provide an extensive and impressive level of social security, particularly in the fields of housing and education. Education in Libya is free for all citizens, and compulsory up until secondary level. The literacy rate is highest in North Africa, over 82% of population can read and write.Tripoli is the capital city of Libya. The city is located in the northwest of the country on the edge of the desert. Tripoli is the largest city and the principal seaport of Libya. It is also the largest commercial and manufacturing center in the country. Due to the city's longest history, there are many sites of archeological significance in Tripoli. It is also the site of Al-Fateh University. The national air carrier is Libyan Airlines, but air travel itself has been extremely difficult for several years. Many foreign airlines don't visit Tripoli, either for political or commercial reasons.
