Capital FM made its debut in September 1996. It is a Kenyan urban music radio station. It was the second FM station to be opened after 101.9 Metro FM shortly after the liberalization of Kenyan airwaves.

Nairobi Capital FM is an urban musical radio station of Kenya; it started its transmission in the year 1996. Its head office located along the Standard Street in the Business center district of Nairobi. It is the authority of leading entrepreneurs of Kenya Chris Kirubi. After the liberalization of Kenya airwaves, capital Fm came into being, it is the second FM radio station after 101.9 Metro Fm. 98.4 Capital Fm is equally popular among upper-class and middle class people of Kenya. It plays a diverse range of music such as rock, hip hop, RNB, new jack swing, world music, techno, dance and jazz etc. It also plays local and native music that is very popular. An especial show that goes on air at a same time for the listeners of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, this show is called "East African Chart Show". The basic aim and objective of 98.4 Capital Fm is to deliver "The Best Mix of Music". 98.4 Capital Fm covers all age group because it is a cosmopolitan Fm radio station.  98.4 Capital Fm is available on internet through its web portal: www.capitalfm.co.ke
