NAIROBI NATIONAL PARK
Nairobi National park is a first Kenyan national park that was founded in the year 1946. It lies seven kilometers far from the south of the Nairobi center. Skyscrapers of Nairobi can easily be seen from the national park of Nairobi. Nairobi national park contains a large number of wild animals. Rhinoceros are very common here. Before the establishment of Nairobi national park Britain came here and lived here, this area was full of wild life population. This area became a conflict area because animals and humans were living in an equal proportion in this area. This area was used for the animal gaming and animal farming put aside. Cowrie initiated a campaign in Kenya to establish a national park to save and protect the wildlife. After all these efforts Nairobi national park was established in the year 1946. This park is currently covering an area of 117.21 square kilometers. The park is separated from the urban area through an electric fencing that is serving as the boundary of park.
Flora of Nairobi National Park
It contains widespread acacia bushes and it is an open grass plain. There is a dry forest on the western side of the park that contains Olea Africana, Croton dichogamus, Brachylaena, hutchinsii and Calodendrum. Where as on the lower slopes of this area there is grassland that contains Themeda, Cypress, Digitaria and Cynodon species. Along the river that is flowing inside the park there is a riverine forest. This area contains Euphorbia and Acacia species along with Apodytes dimidiata, Canthium schimperiana, Elaeodendron buchananii, Ficus eriocarpa, Aspilia mossambicensis, Rhus natalensis and Newtinoa.
Fauna of the Nairobi National Park
This park has a diverse and wide variety of wild animals. The particular animal species that are found in this park are: African Buffalo, baboon, black rhinoceros, Burch ell's zebra, cheetah, coke's hartebeest, Grant's gazelle, hippopotamus, leopard, lion, Thomson's gazelle, eland, impala, masai giraffe, ostrich, waterbuck and vulture. Nairobi National Park is great attraction for the tourism and it is also being used for educational purpose.
