The World Social Forum (WSF) has prompted the organizing of many regional social forums, including the European Social Forum, the Asian Social Forum, the Mediterranean Social Forum, and many local and national social forum, such as the Italian Social Forum, Liverpool Social Forum and the Boston Social Forum.

This forum is an yearly meeting that is organized by the members of anti-globalization (here the term globalization is used in doctrinal sense not used in literal sense)i or alter-globalization movement in order to coordinate world campaigns, share and refine organizing strategies, and inform each other about movements from around the world and their issues. This meeting usually takes place every year in January when its capitalist rival "the World Economic Forum takes place in Davos, Switzerland.
