It is a country in the south-western Pacific Ocean comprising two large and several smaller islands. New Zea land is notable for its geographic isolation, being separated from Australia to the northwest by the Tasman Sea. New Zea land has a population of only 4 million - making it one of the world's least crowded countries. The climate through out the country is mild and temperate. Conditions vary sharply across regions from extremely wet on the West Coast of the South Island. Christchurch is the driest, Auckland is the wettest, receives the 1280mm of rain per year. New Zea land has extra flora and fauna because of its long isolation from the rest of the world. About 80% of the flora in New Zea land occurs only in New Zea land, including more than 40 endemic genera. New Zea land has a modern, prosperous, developed economy. The country has a high standard of living. New Zea land is a country heavily dependent on trade, particularly in agricultural products. Its principal exports industries are agriculture, horticulture, fishing and forestry. Tourism plays a significant role in New Zea land's economy. Wellington is the second largest urban area of New Zea land. It is the capital of the country. It is also considered the arts and culture capital of New Zea land. Education in New Zea land is nominally free for all primary, secondary and intermediate schooling. Primary and secondary education is compulsory for students between the ages of 6 and 16.
