2008 Elections

General elections were decided to hold in the year 2008 but because of the assassination of chairman of PPP Benazir Bhutto, who was the popular leader of Pakistan, elections were postponed and decided to be held in February instead of January.   PPP got most seats in National parliament. Asif Ali Zardari was declared as the president of Pakistan. PML (N) and PPP signed a coalition and it was decided that PML (N) would run government in Punjab and PPP in Sindh and Balochistan, while ANP in NW&FP. According to the coalition both chairpersons i.e. Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari signed agreement to revitalize judiciary in Pakistan, it was also decided to force Pervez Musharaf to left the office of President of Pakistan. PPP backed out from its agreement and failed to fulfill its duties such as people of Pakistan expected a lot from the democratic government but all expectations ended in smoke, PPP denied revitalizing Pakistan judiciary, failed to provide basic facilities to Pakistani people. Currently PPP is putting up very strong pressure from its opposition PML (N) who broke the coalition due to the refusal of PPP for revitalizing judiciary.
