It is an international airport that actually serves at Quito. It is named on the name of historical educational and Latin American Independence hero Antonio Jose de Sucre. It became functional in the year 1960. It lies in the Northern area of the Quito city and it is one the highest airport of the world as it lies at 2800 meters AMSL. It lies at the distance of 5 minute drive from Quito's financial center. Its terminals lie at the intersection of Prensa avenues and Amazonas. Airport is unable to handle and welcome large aircrafts because it is surrounded by the mountains. Due to the presence of mountains several incidents have occurred. Currently airport contains one large terminal that is divided into national and international areas.
