Layers are square shape boxes that can be inserted in any place on your Page. You can insert HTML content in the form of data. These layers can be hidden and overlapped between each other. Layers provide a great diversity to design. You can move the layers from their position just by clicking on the white square in its lest top corner by keeping the mouse pressed and dragging it to new position. These layers can also be resized just by clicking on the black squares and dragging until their size is set to the desired limit. Text, tables, images, and flash animations can be added in these layers, as well. You can also insert an element containing an HTML file. To select a layer, use the icon <!--[if !vml]--><!--[endif]-->, clearing this icon means that you are clearing the layer.

Inserting a layer

You can insert layers in a Page via Inset menu, and then select the Design object option, and Layer. Once you insert the layer, its attributes can be edited by selecting it. Layers can be selected by many different ways. One of these ways is clicking on the <!--[if !vml]--><!--[endif]--> icon. However, it is advisable not to select layers with this option if there are many layers in the similar file.

In this type of situation, select the layers through the Layers option in the Design panel. It can be opened through the Window menu, and then the Layers option. If you don't find the Layers option in the menu, then it may be in the Others option. You can also open it by pressing the key F2. In the panel, the names of all existing layers can be found in actual file, you only need to click on the layer name in order to select that file.

Layer format

The properties of layers are displayed through the properties inspector. Layer ID is the name of layer. It can be changed through the Layers panel, and by double clicking it.

L and T indicate the pixels distance between the left and top limits of the documents and layer. W and H show the width and height of the layer.

Z-index indicates the depth over of a layer. This value can be altered via the Layers panel. A layer will be overlapped by other layers greater Z-index. Vis shows the initial view of the layer. Four types of visibility are:

Default – browser view

Inherit – the layer of a Page that is being shown is displayed

Visible – layer is visible although the Page is not being seen

Hidden – the layer is in hidden mode

The view can also be changed by the Layers panel by clicking on the eye image. The open eye indicates Visible, while the closed shows Hidden.

An image or a background color for the layer can be indicated by Bg Image and Color.

Overflow controls the appearance of a layer in a browser in the event when the content goes beyond the specified size of the layer.

To amplify the layer to make its content fit into it, Visible is used.

Additional content doesn't appear in the browser by using Hidden.

Scroll option inserts the scrolling bars into the layers though they are not needed much.

Auto makes the browser display the scrolling bar when they are required.
